Southlake Carroll avenged its only loss of the season in spectacular fashion, dismantling Byron Nelson 56-7 in the UIL 6A Division II regional final on Saturday night at Choctaw Stadium. The victory not only ended the Bobcats’ season but also propelled the Dragons into next week’s state semifinals against defending champion DeSoto.
The Dragons wasted no time asserting their dominance, jumping to a commanding 42-0 lead by halftime. Their relentless defense forced five turnovers, neutralizing a Byron Nelson team that had previously handed them a rare defeat—a 34-17 upset in late October that secured the Bobcats the district title.
While Byron Nelson reached the regional final after a thrilling 52-45 win over Coppell, Southlake Carroll’s path was smoother, including a decisive 45-14 win against Highland Park in the semifinal. Saturday’s rematch, however, showcased a Dragons team firing on all cylinders.
With momentum firmly in their corner, Southlake Carroll (14-1) now prepares for a high-stakes semifinal against DeSoto, setting the stage for a clash of two powerhouse programs.
