The Timpson Bears left no doubt in their 49-7 triumph over the Tolar Rattlers to secure the 2A Division I State Championship at AT&T Stadium. Fueled by an unforgettable performance from Texas A&M commit Terry Bussey, the Bears dominated the game, breaking two state championship records along the way.
First Half: Bussey Sets the Stage
After a quiet opening, Timpson struck first with a 43-yard touchdown pass from Bussey to Colton Carroll, putting the Bears up 7-0 by the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter belonged entirely to Bussey. A 97-yard touchdown connection with Dacorian Johnson etched their names in the Texas state championship record books for the longest pass and catch in history. Moments later, Bussey set another record with a 93-yard touchdown run, showcasing his unmatched speed and vision.
Timpson’s defense held firm, keeping Tolar off the board and sending the Bears into halftime with a commanding 21-0 lead.
Second Half: A Commanding Finish
Tolar found some life on their opening drive of the third quarter, culminating in a 1-yard touchdown run by Isaac Blessing. However, any momentum was short-lived as Timpson immediately responded with a kickoff return touchdown to extend their lead to 28-7.
The Bears continued to overwhelm Tolar on both sides of the ball. Bussey added two more touchdowns—another long pass to Johnson and a 6-yard quarterback run. The Bears capped their dominant night with a fourth-quarter touchdown to secure a resounding 49-7 victory.
Bussey’s Historic Performance
Terry Bussey’s incredible performance earned him Offensive MVP honors. The dual-threat quarterback completed 12 of 15 passes for 311 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for 155 yards and two scores on just ten carries.
With their record-breaking night, the Timpson Bears celebrate a well-deserved championship, leaving an indelible mark on Texas high school football history.
