In a decisive showcase of talent and preparation, the DeSoto Eagles crushed the Summer Creek Bulldogs 74-14 to secure the 6A Division II State Championship on December 16, 2023. From the opening whistle, DeSoto proved unstoppable, overwhelming Summer Creek on both sides of the ball.
Explosive First Quarter Sets the Tone
DeSoto wasted no time asserting dominance, as quarterback Darius Bailey connected with Marvin Duffey for a 54-yard touchdown on the first drive. A successful two-point conversion set the tone for what would become a scoring clinic. Summer Creek faltered early with an interception that led to another DeSoto touchdown, courtesy of Deondrae Riden Jr. By the end of the first quarter, Bailey had thrown three touchdown passes to Daylon Singleton, racking up 176 yards, and DeSoto led 36-7. The Eagles’ offense amassed 245 total yards, while Summer Creek managed a mere 8.
Relentless in the Second and Third Quarters
DeSoto’s dominance continued into the second quarter with a field goal and another rushing touchdown from Bailey, extending their lead to 46-7 at halftime. The defense shone, forcing multiple turnovers and holding Summer Creek to minimal progress.
In the third quarter, the Eagles kept their foot on the gas. After a blocked punt set up an easy touchdown, Bailey launched another deep pass, this time to Ethan Feaster, pushing the score to 60-7. The relentless defense and special teams continued to stifle the Bulldogs, ensuring they had no chance to recover.
Finishing Strong
DeSoto’s defense punctuated their performance in the fourth quarter with another blocked punt, leading to a touchdown by Brandon Booker after a clever lateral play. Though Summer Creek managed one more touchdown late in the game, DeSoto answered with another score to seal their championship victory in emphatic fashion.
A Season to Remember
The Eagles’ triumph marks a historic achievement for DeSoto High School, cementing their status as one of Texas high school football’s elite programs. With precision offense, stifling defense, and an unrelenting drive, DeSoto ended their season on the highest possible note.
