The Duncanville Panthers triumphed over the Galena Park North Shore Mustangs 49-33 in an exhilarating rematch at the Texas High School Football State Championships, claiming their second consecutive 6A Division I title. From the outset, Duncanville’s potent offense and steadfast defense set the tone for their commanding victory.
Early Dominance Sets the Stage
Duncanville wasted no time, with running back Casen Durham sprinting for a 26-yard touchdown on their opening drive. Despite an early response from North Shore, including a 5-yard rushing touchdown by D’andre Hardeman Jr., Duncanville’s explosive plays proved unstoppable. Durham struck again with a 72-yard touchdown, and quarterback Keelon Russell connected with Dakorien Moore for a 39-yard touchdown, putting the Panthers ahead 21-7 by the end of the first quarter.
Building the Lead Before Halftime
The second quarter continued Duncanville’s offensive fireworks. Durham’s 92-yard touchdown run highlighted the Panthers’ dominance, pushing the lead to 28-7. While North Shore managed a field goal and a late touchdown, Duncanville responded with another scoring drive capped by Zach Turner’s gritty touchdown reception. By halftime, Duncanville led 35-17.
North Shore’s Efforts Fall Short
The Mustangs showed resilience in the second half, starting with a methodical drive that ended in a field goal. However, Duncanville’s defense and special teams kept them at bay, and Russell’s 75-yard touchdown pass to Turner extended the Panthers’ lead to 42-20. Despite North Shore’s late-game touchdowns, including impressive plays by Kaleb Bailey and Jaylen Bocard, turnovers sealed their fate.
Panthers Clinch Victory
Duncanville controlled the final quarter with a clock-chewing drive and a 10-yard touchdown run by Russell. While North Shore fought valiantly, their turnovers and inability to stop big plays left them trailing. The Panthers held on for a 49-33 victory, solidifying their status as a powerhouse program with consecutive state championships.
Duncanville’s balanced attack and relentless defense ensured their championship repeat, leaving North Shore to regroup after another tough loss to their rivals.
