In a storybook ending to a remarkable season, the Anna Coyotes claimed their first football state title with a commanding 26-0 victory over Chapel Hill at the Texas High School Football State Championships. The win marked Anna’s second-ever state championship in any sport, their first since a boys’ golf title in 1968.

A Dominant Start

Anna’s offense wasted no time setting the tone. Edward Chumley opened the scoring with a 6-yard touchdown run on the Coyotes’ first drive, giving them a 7-0 lead. A stifling defensive effort quickly forced a Chapel Hill punt, and Anna capitalized with a 22-yard field goal to extend their lead to 10-0 by the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter was all Anna. Jabari Finnie’s electrifying 76-yard punt return set up another Chumley touchdown, making it 17-0. Chumley continued his dominance with a receiving touchdown later in the quarter, his third score of the half. Chapel Hill’s struggles mounted with penalties and miscues, culminating in a botched punt snap that resulted in a safety. Anna entered halftime firmly in control, up 26-0.

Defensive Brilliance

The Coyotes’ defense was relentless, shutting down Chapel Hill’s attempts to spark a comeback. The Bulldogs’ best chance came early in the second half, when they drove inside Anna’s 20-yard line. However, a sack and a turnover on downs halted their progress.

Chapel Hill’s final opportunity came with a 17-play drive in the fourth quarter, but Anna’s defense held strong, stopping the Bulldogs on 4th-and-goal from the 2-yard line. The Coyotes preserved their shutout through the final whistle, securing the historic victory.

A Season to Remember

Anna’s triumph capped a transformative run under Head Coach Seth Parr. After seasons of rebuilding, the Coyotes delivered back-to-back one-loss campaigns before achieving the ultimate goal. Ninety years after the program’s inception, Anna stands atop Texas high school football, their 26-0 championship win a testament to resilience and teamwork.
