Guyer pulled off a dramatic 35-30 victory over Aledo on Friday, snapping the Bearcats’ remarkable 30-game winning streak. The Wildcats, now the only team to defeat the back-to-back state champions in two years, delivered a statement win in their home opener at C.H. Collins Athletic Complex.
Aledo took early control, jumping to a 16-3 lead early in the second quarter. However, Guyer’s resilience showed through a series of game-changing moments. Senior linebacker Zach De Anda’s blocked punt turned into a touchdown that tied the game at 16-16. Shortly after Aledo regained the lead, Guyer’s Corbin Glasco returned a kickoff 83 yards for another special teams score, sending the game into halftime deadlocked at 23-23.

The second half saw both teams trade big plays. Glasco’s electrifying 54-yard touchdown run tied the game at 30-30 late in the third quarter. Guyer’s defense then took over, with sophomore defensive lineman Khyren Haywood sacking Aledo’s quarterback for a safety that gave the Wildcats a narrow lead.
Guyer added to their advantage with senior kicker Ford Stinson’s fourth field goal of the night, capping a 12-play drive to make it 35-30. In the final seconds, Aledo’s last-ditch Hail Mary attempt fell short, and Guyer’s defense sealed the win, sparking a wild on-field celebration.
Guyer coach Reed Heim credited the victory to preparation and composure. The win adds to a trilogy of dramatic non-district battles between these programs, with Guyer reclaiming bragging rights after last year’s narrow loss.
