In a thrilling contest at Northwest ISD Stadium, Trophy Club Byron Nelson rallied from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to edge Lewisville 32-28 on Thursday night. The Bobcats’ dramatic comeback, capped by a late touchdown, keeps their season unblemished at 2-0, while the Farmers drop to 1-1.
The game was a rollercoaster of missed opportunities and clutch plays. Lewisville jumped out to an early lead as quarterback Tre Williams connected with Derrick Martin for a first-quarter touchdown. Byron Nelson answered with a rushing score from Tucker James in the second quarter, but special teams woes—including two blocked kicks—left the Bobcats trailing 14-12 at halftime.
Lewisville appeared to take control in the second half, extending their lead to 28-18 with a pair of scores from Martin and running back Tenel Hill. But Byron Nelson’s determination never wavered.

Senior wide receiver Leo Almanza delivered a standout performance, hauling in three touchdown catches from quarterback Grant Bizjack. With under four minutes to play, Almanza’s 8-yard touchdown reception cut the deficit to three. Moments later, on a critical 4th-and-6 with under a minute remaining, Bizjack found Almanza for a 54-yard game-winning strike.
Almanza finished with six catches for 119 yards, while Bizjack threw for 264 yards and four touchdowns. Despite struggles on special teams and two failed two-point conversions, the Bobcats’ resilience proved decisive.
Byron Nelson now prepares for a tough matchup against Southlake Carroll as they aim to keep their undefeated streak alive.
