The Argyle Eagles cruised to a 42-17 victory over the Lovejoy Leopards in the Class 5A Division I regional final on Friday night, extending their win streak to 13 games. The win ended Lovejoy’s season at 10-4, while Argyle now looks ahead to the state semifinals.
Lovejoy took an early lead with a 43-yard field goal from Cooper Ryan and a 10-7 advantage after a 3-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Janecek to Daylan McCutcheon. However, Argyle quickly found their stride, outscoring the Leopards 35-0 over the next two quarters to take control of the game.

Argyle’s quarterback, Maguire Gasperson, led the offense with 142 passing yards, including a 73-yard touchdown to Julian Caldwell. Gasperson also ran for a touchdown, contributing to a balanced offensive attack. Argyle’s defense was just as dominant, with Max Bland forcing a key fumble and Grayson Peschel returning an interception 81 yards for a touchdown.
Despite the loss, Lovejoy showed heart. McCutcheon finished with 131 receiving yards and a touchdown, and defenders James Markovich and Gavin Prince each forced fumbles, keeping Argyle’s offense under pressure. Freshman Coleman Reaugh caught a touchdown in the fourth quarter, providing a bright spot in the defeat.
With this win, Argyle advances to face South Oak Cliff in the state semifinals on December 13, as they aim for another championship appearance. Lovejoy’s season ends in the regional finals for the fourth time in five years.
