The Longview Lobos delivered a dominant performance in the 6A Division II Region II final, defeating the DeSoto Eagles 50-14 on Saturday. Senior running back Kelvin Washington was the star of the show, rushing for 273 yards and five touchdowns, including an incredible 94-yard run, in one of the most remarkable individual performances of the season.

Longview set the tone early with a 34-yard touchdown run by Washington. DeSoto briefly gained the lead when quarterback Kelden Ryan connected with Daylon Singleton for a 21-yard touchdown, but the Lobos quickly regained control, with Washington scoring two more touchdowns to push the lead further.

The Eagles’ chances took a hit when star running back Deondrae Riden Jr. was injured in the second quarter and didn’t return. DeSoto, which had averaged 37 points per game during the regular season, struggled to move the ball without Riden.

Longview’s defense capitalized on the Eagles’ misfortunes. Cornerback Da’Kayden Carter intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown, while linebacker Kason Brooks added another interception to seal the win.

DeSoto’s season ends at 11-3, snapping a seven-game winning streak, while Longview improves to 12-2 and secures their second state semifinal appearance in three years. The Lobos will now face Southlake Carroll, with Washington leading the charge and a strong defense backing them up.
