Jayton Crushes Oakwood, Claims Six-Man Division II Crown in Style
AT&T Stadium turned into a Jayton showcase Wednesday afternoon as the Jayhawks left no doubt about who owned the 1A Division II stage. Powered by quarterback Sean Stanaland’s four-touchdown performance, Jayton throttled Oakwood 54–8, locking up a perfect season and the state championship in just two quarters.
Stanaland Sets the Tone
From the opening snap, Stanaland looked unstoppable. The senior was sharp through the air, connecting on 7-of-8 passes for 102 yards and two scores, while also slicing through the defense with touchdown runs of 13 and 15 yards. His fingerprints were on everything Jayton did.
Plenty of Help
The Jayhawks’ offense wasn’t a one-man show. Bode Ham put his stamp on the title game with a 37-yard sprint to the end zone and also hauled in one of Stanaland’s touchdown passes. Colt Gentry joined the party, scoring both as a receiver and a runner. By the time the first quarter ended, Jayton had already built a 22–0 cushion that felt insurmountable.
Mercy Rule Finish
The Jayhawks kept piling it on, stretching the margin so wide that the game ended at halftime under the six-man “Mercy Rule.” Jayton walked off the field not only as champions but as an undefeated juggernaut at 15–0.
Oakwood’s Lone Highlight
For Oakwood, the afternoon was a tough climb, but quarterback Dayden Velasquez provided one bright moment, connecting with Brady Harrison for a 60-yard strike—the Panthers’ only touchdown of the contest. Oakwood closed its season at 9–6, while Jayton celebrated perfection.
Final: Jayton 54, Oakwood 8 — Game over by halftime, history sealed for the Jayhawks.
