Southlake Carroll Torches Hebron Before Lightning Ends the Night Early

SOUTHLAKE — Storm clouds rolled in again, but not even the weather could slow Southlake Carroll’s early season momentum. The top-ranked Dragons roared through two quarters of play, overwhelming Hebron 35 to 7 before lightning forced the teams to shut it down midway through the third at Dragon Stadium.

A Delayed Start, an Instant Spark

For the second straight week, kickoff had to wait out a lengthy delay. Once the skies finally cracked open, the Dragons struck even faster. On Carroll’s first offensive snap, quarterback Angelo Renda uncorked a deep ball that fell perfectly into the hands of Blake Gunter, who sprinted untouched for a 68 yard touchdown. One play, six points, and a clear message.

Carroll’s offense never cooled. Every first half possession ended in the end zone, and Renda was the conductor of it all, carving up Hebron’s secondary for 339 passing yards by halftime.

Big Plays Become Routine

Running back Brooks Biggers capped the next scoring march with a short burst over the goal line, set up by a 52 yard rope from Renda to Brody Knowles. Moments later came the jaw-dropper of the night. Senior receiver and Ohio State commit Brock Boyd laid out fully extended to haul in a 44 yard touchdown, drawing roars from a crowd that had waited through an hour of delays just to see moments like that.

Carroll stacked on two more touchdowns before the break, taking a 35 to 7 lead into halftime and maintaining a perfect scoring record on every offensive drive through the first two games of the season.

Weather Ends It, but the Statement Was Already Made

Just over ten minutes remained in the third quarter when lightning reappeared. Carroll had punted for the first time this year on the previous snap, yet before Hebron could attempt to build momentum, both coaches agreed the conditions were unsafe. The game went into the books as a Dragons victory minutes later.

Hebron’s lone bright spot came in the first half when the Hawks briefly cut the margin to 14 to 7, but Carroll responded with three straight touchdowns to silence any upset chatter.

With the shortened contest, Southlake Carroll improves to 2 and 0 while showcasing yet another week of explosive efficiency. Hebron drops to 1 and 1 after running into the buzzsaw that continues to roll through September.
