Southlake Carroll Prepares for Keller Test as Rivalry Returns to the Spotlight

SOUTHLAKE – The lights will burn bright on Friday as Southlake Carroll welcomes Keller in a matchup that rarely disappoints. The Dragons have controlled this series for years, stacking seven straight wins, but Keller arrives with confidence and enough offensive juice to challenge the unbeaten powerhouse.

Carroll Rolling Into Midseason Form

The Dragons are off to a flawless 5 and 0 start, and last week’s performance showed why. Carroll dismantled Timber Creek 55 to 13, delivering one of their sharpest all-around efforts of the fall.

Angelo Renda orchestrated the attack with precision, firing for 241 yards and four touchdown throws, his heaviest scoring night since late last year. The run game delivered steady heat as well. Davis Penn touched the ball only ten times yet produced 72 yards and two scores, proving Carroll can hurt defenses from every angle.

On defense, the Dragons brought relentless pressure. Timber Creek quarterbacks spent much of the night under siege as Carroll collected four and a half sacks. The moment of the night came when Taevin Kunz jumped a route, snatched a pass, and sprinted it back for a pick six.

Keller Finding Its Footing

Keller heads into the rivalry showdown riding a wave of momentum after a 38 to 29 victory over Keller Central. The Indians leaned on a punishing ground attack to take control of the game.

David Makia turned in a bruising 122-yard, two-touchdown performance. Quarterback Brock Burkett added 92 rushing yards and two scores of his own while also continuing his efficient work through the air. Burkett has thrown for seven touchdowns this season and averages more than 150 passing yards per outing, giving Keller a balanced look with real upside.

Quarterbacks at Center Stage

Both teams boast signal callers capable of taking over the night. Renda enters with 15 touchdown passes and only three interceptions while averaging nearly 281 passing yards per game. Burkett brings a different challenge with his ability to run and throw equally well.

For Keller to halt Carroll’s streak, Burkett and Makia will need to keep pace with the Dragons’ explosive offense from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.

Why It Matters

Carroll controlled last year’s meeting with a 52 to 21 win, but Keller believes it has closed the gap. The Dragons hope to keep their perfect record alive while Keller looks to shake up the district race and flip a rivalry that has tilted one way for years.

Friday night promises fireworks.
