Crowley Travels to Face No. 1 Southlake Carroll in Tough Thursday Test
The road gets no easier for Crowley this week. The Eagles head into Dragon Stadium on Thursday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff against top-ranked Southlake Carroll, a matchup that places a struggling squad against one of the most complete teams in Texas.
Eagles Searching for Answers
Crowley enters the showdown after a difficult outing, falling 27 to 6 against North Crowley. The loss continued a frustrating trend for the Eagles, who have now dropped seven straight matchups to the Panthers. Offense was tough to come by last week, and Crowley will need a major turnaround to keep pace with what awaits them in Southlake.
Dragons Keep Rolling
Southlake Carroll did exactly what you expect from the state’s No. 1 team last Friday. The Dragons dominated Keller Central from the opening snap, cruising to a 49 to 3 victory and pushing their record to 10 and 0. With a massive ranking edge over the Chargers, the outcome stayed true to form.
The offensive star of the night was running back Davis Penn, who carved through the defense for 170 rushing yards and two scores while averaging more than ten yards each time he touched the ball. Those numbers marked a new personal best and added another weapon to an offense already humming at full speed.
Quarterback Angelo Renda chipped in four touchdown passes and directed a ground attack that piled up 240 rushing yards, the Dragons’ highest single-game total of the season.
Defense Showing Teeth
Carroll’s defense refused to be overshadowed. The Dragons snatched two interceptions, one from William Leins and another from Taevin Kunz, who returned his for a touchdown. Leins also posted a season-high nine tackles, helping limit Keller Central to only a field goal.
With both sides clicking, Carroll looked every bit the championship contender its ranking suggests.
A Familiar Challenge
Crowley has felt Southlake Carroll’s power before, most notably in their 2022 meeting where the Dragons rolled to a 52 to 13 win after building a commanding halftime lead. The Eagles will look for a different script this time, but the task remains enormous.
Southlake Carroll brings an undefeated record and a roster full of playmakers. Crowley brings determination and an opportunity to shock the state.
The Dragons will be favored, but Thursday night is another chance to see whether Crowley can push back against one of the giants of Texas high school football.
